With a "Go Beyond" Mindset Towards Future Career, Over 16,000 CQU Graduates Kick Off Their New Journey

Time flies and it is time to say good bye to CQU fresh graduates. On June 28, CQU Commencement Ceremony & Degree Awarding Ceremony 2024 took place at Playground as scheduled. Over 16,000 CQU fresh graduates harboring hopes and expectations for the future are about to embark on a new life journey. Wang Shuxin, President of CQU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, addressed the graduates with the topic of "Go Beyond" in their "last lesson."


Before the opening of the commencement ceremony, more than ten faculty and student representatives guided all the graduates to join in singing songs such as Boundless Oceans Vast Skies, Chasing Dreams with a Pure Heart, and I Love You China, which fueled the high spirits and surging passions of all the graduates who were about to embark on their new journeys.



The event was graced by the presence of Shu Lichun, Secretary of the Party Committee of CQU; Wang Shuxin, President of CQU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Wang Shilong, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CQU; CQU vice presidents Lu Yiyu, Li Jian, Liu Guiwen, and Rao Jinsong; Cai Guangzhong, alumni representative and Vice President of Tencent and General Manager of Tencent's Southwestern China Region; standing members of the Party Committee of CQU, assistant to the President of CQU, members of CQU Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, persons in charge of colleges/schools and functional departments concerned, representatives of faculty and staff, representatives of alumni and representatives of parents. The event was moderated by Feng Yedong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CQU.

CQU Commencement Ceremony and Degree Awarding Ceremony 2024 officially started with the majestic national anthem.

On the occasion of the commencement ceremony, Wang Shuxin offered his life advice and best wishes for all the fresh graduates. President Wang encouraged the graduates to carry forward the go beyond mindset, have a clear understanding of themselves, embrace the world positively, continue to work hard, dare to challenge and go beyond, and continue to reshape a better version of themselves for a more splendid life.



President Wang put forward three expectations for graduates. First, to be courageous in the pursuit of "dream" and "truth" and confident and persistent to go beyond. To do so, you should always maintain determined, bold in pursuit of dreams, dare to explore truth, be confident and persistent to march forward, and constantly go beyond, to customize a better version of yourself in the active search for the meaning of life in your life journey. Second, to keep abreast of the "times" and get a clear picture of the "trends" and be open and inclusive to go beyond. To do so, you should have a good grasp of the rhythm of the times, actively embrace the world, be brave in the process from exploring the world to integrating into the world, and from looking at the world equally to influencing the world, and endeavor to deliver remarkable performances on your own. Third, to be diligent in cultivating "virtue" and "skills" and work hard to go beyond. To do so, you should learn extensively and practice assiduously, conduct good behaviors and make new improvements to gather more energy to go beyond and achieve bigger things, and move forward to go beyond yourself and become a better version of yourself.

President Wang affectionately addressed the graduates to set up the ambition to be a pillar, a pioneer, a tough person, and vigorously carry forward the spirit of CQU to revitalize the nation and vow to be a front-runner. He encouraged CQU graduates to forge ahead with enterprise and fortitude, boldly go beyond, and make constant improvements to deliver CQU's solutions to major reforms. He also called for CQU graduates to play parts as youngsters in promoting the development of a strong nation and national rejuvenation, while making your life wonderful.

Zhang Di, an undergraduate program graduate of the Class of 2024 from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, delivered a speech as the representative of undergraduates. She shared the story of her growth from being naive to mature and from being confused to determined in the four years of schooling. She called on the graduates to uphold the CQU spirit of revitalizing the nation and vowing to be a front-runner, and strive to practice patriotism, exhibit CQU's commitment and contribute CQU's strength in all walks of life.



Ma Jiangping, a doctoral graduate of the Class of 2024 from the College of Physics, spoke on behalf of the postgraduates. He emotionally recounted his four years of exploration of scientific research at CQU, encouraging graduates to dedicate themselves in the new era and align their individual goals with the blueprint of the Party and the country, and to pursue excellence in the new journey.



Brooks Schanelle Lison, an international student representative and a Master's program graduate of the Class of 2024 from the School of Management Science & Real Estate, succinctly recounted her unforgettable memories of her nine years at CQU and in Chongqing, "I am eager to capitalize on my expertise gained at CQU to contribute to the development of my country and facilitate exchanges between our two cultures."



Xiang Tao, Dean of CQU College of Computer Science, professor, doctoral supervisor, chief scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program of China, and national high-level talent, as a faculty representative, delivered the most sincere blessings to the graduates. He hoped that the graduates would not rest on their laurels, bear responsibilities for the present, and have no fear of the future. With the spirit that "self-confidence can empower a man to swim 3,000 miles and live for 200 years," and "upon coming to the end of water flow, I would sit down to behold white clouds float," you the graduates would overcome all the obstacles and move forward with ease.



Cai Guangzhong, alumni representative, Bachelor's degree holder in Forging and Pressing of Class 1995, Master's degree holder in Business Administration of Class 2004, and Vice President of Tencent and General Manager of Tencent's Southwestern China Region, shared his own experiences and reflections on his endeavors. He considered that young people should be passionate and idealistic to drive their lives forward; focus on concrete things instead of grand plans, and put great efforts on doing trivial works; stay sharp and learn continuously to gain insights into the industry changes; stay away from negativity, maintain a positive mindset and be ready at all times.  


Representatives of the graduates of the Class of 2024 presented a well-prepared souvenir to their alma mater on the spot to express the gratitude and attachment of all graduates to their alma mater, and Shu Lichun, Secretary of the Party Committee of CQU, received the souvenir on behalf of CQU.



Wang Shilong read out the commendation decisions for outstanding graduates, outstanding international graduates, and recipients of Yuanhang Horizon Award. Guests from the front row of the podium presented awards to the representatives of the winning students.



Lu Yiyu read out the decision of degree awarding. CQU awarded 633 graduates with doctoral degrees, 5,815 with Master's degrees, and 9,568 with Bachelor's degrees for the academic year of 2023-2024.



Shu Lichun, Wang Shuxin, Wang Shilong, Lu Yiyu, Li Jian, Liu Guiwen, Rao Jinsong, and Li Yingmin awarded degrees to the representatives of graduates.



At the degree awarding session, graduates took photos to participate in the on-site message interaction to convey their blessings and unforgettable feelings. The commencement ceremony site also screened graduation message VCR Heading for Tomorrow, graduation MV and other graduation-themed videos to express CQU's best wishes for the graduates.



Reportedly, CQU also prepared an exclusive graduation gift for graduates of the Class of 2024 - a paper sculpture lamp set. Featuring CQU's iconic buildings, the paper sculpture functions as both a pendant and a table lamp, symbolizing that the years of CQU's history are like a bright light that illuminates the graduates' journey ahead. Thanks to the active coordination of the relevant functional departments of CQU, CQU's best wishes for the graduates were displayed along the Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT) Loop Line and CRT Line 1. In addition, the Concert for Graduate of Class 2024 was organized by CQU at 7:30pm on June 28. From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on June 28, the Fosun International Center in Chongqing, located behind Hongyadong, turned on the lights of the whole building to highlight the best wishes of the CQU graduates of Class 2014.
