Zhou Xuhong, male, Han nationality, born in September 1956, native of Nanxian, Hunan, doctor of engineering, professor, doctoral supervisor and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Zhou joined CPC in April 1985 and started working in January 1973.
Zhou is now acting as the vice chairman of China Steel Construction Society, director of the Technical Committee, the National Engineering Research Center for Steel Construction, the managing director of China Civil Engineering Society, an expert of the Committee of Experts, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development, vice chairman of China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development, commissioner of Energy and Civil Construction Water Conservation Department, Science and Technology Committee, the Ministry of Education, fellow of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and senior expert of the UNIDO International Solar Energy Center for Technology Promotion and Transfer.
From March 1978 to January 1982, Zhou studied in the Department of Civil Engineering in Hunan University, majoring in industrial and civil construction and obtained the bachelor’s degree; from August 1984 to June 1986 and from September 1987 to November 1992, he studied in the Department of Civil Engineering in Hunan University, majoring in structural engineering, and obtained the master’s degree and doctor’s degree respectively. From January 1982 to August 1984, he served as an assistant engineer China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau, and as a teaching assistant, lecturer and associate professor successively in the Department of Civil Engineering from June 1986 to May 1996. In May 1996, Zhou was given the title of professor. Then he served as deputy director of the Department of Civil Engineering in Hunan University, and the director of the Graduate Faculty and director of “211 Project” Office of Hunan University from March 1994 to July 1999. In August 1999, he started to serve as the vice president of Hunan University and in May 2002, he started to serve as the president of Chang'an University. In May 2006, Zhou started to serve as the president of Lanzhou University (of the deputy ministerial level). From June 2013 to Dec 2017, Zhou was appointed as the president of Chongqing University (of the deputy ministerial level).
Zhou has been engaged in teaching and scientific research of steel structure, steel-concrete composite structure, fabricated building structure, long-span structure, and bridge structure of the structural engineering discipline for a long time. He has won 15 science and technology awards of above the provincial and ministerial level successively, including 3 national second prizes for progress in science and technology (ranking the first place for 2 awards and the second place for 1 award), 7 provincial first prizes and 5 second prizes for progress in science and technology, 1 national second prize for teaching achievements, and 2 provincial first prizes for teaching achievements, and has obtained more than 40 national invention patents, edited or co-edited 9 national and industrial standards, 4 provincial standard design atlases, edited 12 national and provincial construction methods, published 2 monographs, edited and co-edited 9 textbooks, and released more than 280 academic papers at home and abroad. Zhou also acted as the editor in chief of Journal of Architecture and Civil Engineering, and the editorial board members of 7 international academic journals including the Int. Journal of Sustainable Materials and Structural Systems, China Civil Engineering Journal and Journal of Building Structure.
