TheLaboratory of New Technology for Construction of Cities in Mountain Area (Chongqing University) was listed in the Key Laboratory Application Guidebook by the Ministry of Education in September, 2005. The construction plan feasibility study was approved in May, 2007. The construction was checked and accepted and formally approved as a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education in November, 2008. It has passed the inspection for the key laboratories of the Ministry of Education.
With the support of the first class disciplines in Chongqing University, the laboratoryaims at 4 major research areas: (1) Ecological Planning of Mountain Towns; (2) Mountain Area Built Heritage Conservation; (3) Geotechnical Disaster and Underground Space; (4) Disaster Prevention and Mitigation ofMountainBuildings. The laboratory generally focuses on the applied and fundamental researches in the field of mountain town construction. It responds to the great demands to space construction and safety. It focuses on the theories and technologies of intensive town planning, space and environment construction, underground space development, and structural safety. It has become a high level research centre for research, technology development, education, and international exchanges. It provides theoretical and technological support to town construction tofulfill the national strategies.
The laboratory has established a high level creative platform. In recent 5 years, 2 first level disciplines including urban planning and landscape architecture are added and approved with doctorate programs and post-doctor circulation stations. It has also won several titles including "Green Architecture and Human Settlement Construction International Collaboration Joint Laboratory", "Chongqing 2011 Collaborative Innovation Centre for Mountain Town Construction", "Chongqing Engineering Laboratory for Reservoir Area Mountain Towns Geological Disaster Prevention", and etc.
In recent years, with the support from Chongqing University, the laboratory has renovated and expanded the shaking table test studio to 3,500 m², geotechnical testing building to 1,500m², acoustics studio to 180m². 22 sets of large test equipments worthy more than 500,000 RMB each. It has upgraded the hydraulic oil source module in the structure laboratory, installed comprehensive static testing platform, auxiliary instruments, and counterforce device.
