The update of ESI data released on March 15, 2018 covering a period from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2017 showed that 6 disciplines of Chongqing University were included in top 1% ESI disciplines. Those 6 disciplines include engineering, material science, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and clinical medicine. This was the first time that the number of disciplines of CQU included had reached 6. Please see Table 1 for the details of each discipline.
ESI Database comes up with the rankings of different organizations in the world based on the citations of the papers. The statistics released this time showed that a total of 5,776 were included in the top 1%, among which Chongqing University ranked the 880th place, raising by 108 places compared with the 988th place in 2017 of the same period. Since the release of the update of ESI data in March, the citations of papers on the 6 top 1% ESI disciplines of Chongqing University have been increasing. It was the first time that mathematics of Chongqing University had been included. Before that, there had been no highly cited paper on clinical medicine of Chongqing University.
The Report on ESI Discipline Influence of Chongqing University compiled by Library Academic Evaluation and Analysis Center had listed the computer science, mathematics and clinical medicine of Chongqing University as the disciplines that had the greatest potential to be included in the top 1% ESI disciplines and offered in-depth analysis. It 2017, it congratulated on the inclusion of the 3 disciplines in the top 1% ESI disciplines. The Library Academic Evaluation and Analysis Center of Chongqing University has been paying close and continued attention to the development trend of disciplines of Chongqing University in the ESI evaluation system, and will carry out evaluation and analysis of advantageous disciplines and potential disciplines of the University, the results of which will be released regularly, in the hope that this would help with “Double-First-Rate” construction of the University.

Whether a discipline is included in the top ESI disciplines is one of the important indicators of whether the discipline is a world first rate discipline, and is also one of the important indicators of the core competitiveness of disciplinary development of a university. As such, Chongqing University has been attaching great importance to first-rate discipline construction and strengthening management organization planning to increase the number of papers, while improving the paper quality. The inclusion of mathematics in top 1% ESI disciplines for the first time indicates that Chongqing University has made considerable achievements in disciplinary construction. Chongqing University will make further efforts in disciplinary construction to advance Double-First-Rate Construction.
