On September 10, 2017, the 4th “Excellence Cup” Chemistry New Experiment Design and Chemistry Experiment Skill Competition for Students of Excellence 9 is held at Southeast University. With dedicated support of the School and the Teaching Affairs Office of CQU, a delegation of 11 students from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of CQU has participated in the Competition in Nanjing on behalf of Chongqing University. In 2 days of intense competition, the delegation has participated in all of the 6 competition events and gained plausible achievements. In the experiment skill competition, Luo Haiqiang, a student of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of CQU has won the first prize, He Anbang has won the second prize and Liu Yixia has won the third prize. In the “new experiment design competition”, Li Bing, Huang Dan and Chen Haijing in the Organic Group have won the first prize for groups. In addition, Wang Qilisha, Lyu Sen and Feng Jun of the Physical Chemistry Group and Zhou Zhengtao and Luo Zipeng of the Analysis Group have respectively won the third prize for groups.
The “Excellence Cup” Chemistry New Experiment Design and Chemistry Experiment Skill Competition is initiated by Excellence 9 and aims to stimulate the teaching reform of chemistry experiment of the Excellence 9, promote design-oriented, comprehensive and innovative experiment teaching, verify the outcomes of reform of experiment teaching and improve the teaching quality of college chemistry experiment. The Competition is composed of “Experiment Skill Competition” and “New Experiment Design Competition”. The former is designed to test the compliance to standards of the experiment operation by students and their chemistry knowledge comprehensive application capacity. The participants have been randomly picked from juniors in the year of the Competition in their first semester of the year. The participants in “New Experiment Design Competition” form groups at their own will, and it is designed to encourage students to strengthen the combination of fundamental theory and practice of chemistry, reinforcing their understanding and application of theoretical foundation of chemistry, improve comprehensive capacity and practical ability of college students, and cultivate their innovation spirit and teamwork spirit. The Competition plays a key facilitating role in reform of teaching content and courses of chemistry experiment.
It is reported that the 5th “Excellence Cup” Chemistry New Experiment Design and Chemistry Experiment Skill Competition will be held in 2018 at Harbin Institute of Technology.
