On the morning of October 14, 2017, Chongqing University appoints Yukio Tamura, a member of Japanese Academy of Engineering, and a former chairman of International Associations for Wind Engineering, as a full-time professor of the School of Civil Engineering. The appointment ceremony is held in the Conference Hall on second floor of Kingworld Hotel Chongqing. Academician Zhou Xuhong, president of Chongqing University, Yang Qingshan, dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Professor Theodore Stathopoulos, a fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering, Kishor Metha, an academician of the National Academy of Engineering, Ahsan Kareem academician of the National Academy of Engineering, and Professor Chen Xinzhong from Texas Tech University, and other experts and officials are present at the ceremony.
The appointment ceremony is chaired by Yang Qingshan, dean of the School of Civil Engineering. Dean Yang at the beginning delivers a welcome speech and congratulates on the appointment of Professor Yukio Tamura as a full-time professor of the School. President Zhou awards Professor Yukio Tamura with the letter of appointment and points out that Professor Yukio Tamura has been a long-term friend of Chongqing University, and has contributed a lot to its development. He expresses his hope that Professor Yukio Tamura will continue to make contributions.
Professor Yukio Tamura then delivers an inaugural address. He extends his gratitude to the trust placed by the School on him, and goes over his connections with the School. Professor Yukio Tamura promises to make efforts to build the School into a better one together with the teachers and students in the future.
After the ceremony, Professor Yukio Tamura delivers an academic report titled “Tornados in Japan and Japanese Enhanced Fujita-scale”.
Bio of Professor Yukio Tamura
Prof. Yukio Tamura was the director of Wind Engineering Research Center in Department of Architectural Engineering of Tokyo Polytechnics University (TPU) and the director of TPU GLOBAL COE Program under Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japanese Government. He has been the president of the International Associations for Wind Engineering (IAWE) for eight years. He has received several honors including the Prize of Architectural Institute of Japan, the Prize of Japan Association for Wind Engineering, Alan G. Davenport Medal of IAWE and Jack E. Cermak Medal, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Prof. The International Group for Wind-Related Disaster Risk Reduction was founded and led by Yukio Tamura in 2009 and chaired until now. Prof. Yukio Tamura has research interests in wind engineering, control of wind-induced vibration and monitoring of wind-induced structural response.
