Recently, the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences released the list of National Social Science Foundation supported major projects approved to be established in 2017. The Mechanism Innovation for Use of Micro-grid to Increase Utilization of Renewable Energy Sources and Top-level Design submitted by Professor Long Yong from the School of Economics and Business Administration as the chief expert and the Environment Bearing Capacity Evaluation and Policy Research for Large City Resources in the Background of Big Data submitted by Professor Shen Liyin from the School of Construction Management and Real Estate as the chief expert are approved to be established through intense competition.

Among the major bid inviting projects supported by National Social Science Foundation of 2017, there are 6 projects undertaken by Chongqing Municipality and 2 projects undertaken by Chongqing University, which is more than that of any other universities in Chongqing. By now, Chongqing University has been granted the National Social Science Foundation supported major projects for 7 consecutive years since 2011, and it is the first time that Chongqing University has been granted two major projects in one time. In 2015, Chongqing University was granted two major projects. The project of Professor Long Yong is the third major projects obtained by the School of Economics and Business Administration supported by the National Social Science Foundation. The project of Professor Shen Liyin is the first major project of this type ever obtained by the School of Construction Management and Real Estate. In addition, the major bid inviting project Research of Social Ethics Psychology of Public Events submitted by Professor Liu Haiming from the School of Journalism as the chief expert is granted the subsidy for conversion from a major project to a key project, the only one of its kind in the entire municipality. In 2017, Chongqing  University has organized a total of 10 major bid inviting projects supported by the National Social Science Foundation.

The major projects supported by the National Social Science Foundation are the projects in the philosophy and social science research sector of China with the highest level, the greatest funding efforts, the highest authority, and the most intense competition. In recent years, Chongqing University has been attaching great importance to construction and management of humanities and social sciences. The Office of Social Sciences has been concentrating efforts on improving the capacity of the University of organizing, planning and obtaining national major projects based on the central tasks of the University, and has been assisting the project programs in their related work, in particular the whole process and caring services such as project choosing, team building, preparation of bidding documents, expert argumentation and consultancy early cultivation in the early cultivation and project application period of major projects. The major project obtained by Professor Long Yong has been proposed by him in the suggestion on project choosing submitted to the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences and was then included in the bid inviting guidance. The major project won by Professor Shen Liyin was not proposed by Professor Shen. However, the project managed to defeat many others and was ultimately approved. This indicates that the overall capacity of the humanities and social sciences research team of Chongqing  University to obtain national major projects has been greatly improved and the level of the research team and quality of academic projects selection are drawing attention and gaining recognition of the state government. This will surely help with innovative development of the humanities and social sciences of Chongqing University and enhancement of its core competitiveness.
