School of OptoElectronic Engineering Wins Prizes in “Baidu Xi’an Jiaotong University – Big Data Contest” and “Global AI Contest”

It is reported that Tang Yongliang and Chen Chaoyue, doctoral candidates, and Chen Yongliang, a postgraduate, all as members of the research team led by Professor Gong Weiguo of the School of OptoElectronic Engineering of Chongqing University, have successively participated in the Third “Baidu Xi’an Jiaotong University – Big Data Contest” and the First “AI Challenger · Global AI Contest”, and have achieved gratifying results.

 

“Baidu Xi’an Jiaotong University – Big Data Contest” is co-held by Baidu and Xi’an Jiaotong University, and it is aimed to discover and develop top-level talents in big data artificial intelligence in colleges and universities in China, and provide a more encouraging development environment and practice opportunities for those talents. A total of 1,393 teams have participated in the Contest. Those teams were asked to identify the species of pet dogs out of the given data using the “image recognition technology”. After fierce competition, the “Young Pioneers Team” made up of Chen Chaoyue, Chen Yongliang and Yang Bin won the second prize.

“AI Challenger · Global AI Contest” is sponsored by Sinovation Ventures, Sogou, and Headlines Today, and is aimed to meet the need of the academic circle for high-quality data set from the aspect of scientific research, and expedite the integration of artificial intelligence in scientific research and business areas, thus encouraging the developers and researchers engaged in artificial intelligence in the world to collaboratively explore cutting-edge technologies and application innovation.

 

The Organizing Committee of the Global AI Contest has published the 1-million-order computer vision data set and 10-million-order machine translation data set, including contest segments such as machine-based English-to-Chinese simultaneous interpretation, machine-based English-to-Chinese text translation, scene classification, human body bone critical point detection and Chinese description of images. A total of 8,892 teams made up of more than 10,000 candidates from 65 countries have participated in the Contest. The “IITLAB_ Young Pioneers Team” made up of Tang Yongliang, Chen Chaoyue and Chen Yongliang has performed quite well in the biweekly competition and the final, and eventually won the second place prize in the final of the scene segment.
