On the afternoon of February 2, 2018, Vice Premier Liu Yandong of the State Council pays an investigation visit to Huxi Campus of Chongqing University, and extends her New Year greetings to the students and teachers there. Jiang Xiaojuan, deputy secretary general of the State Council, Sun Yao, vice minister of the Ministry of Education, Wang Guoqiang, deputy director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China, Qu Qian, vice mayor of Chongqing Municipality, Wang Yue, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of Chongqing and secretary of CPC Shapingba District Committee, Zhou Xun, secretary of CPC Chongqing University Committee, Zhang Zongyi, president of Chongqing University, Meng Weidong, vice president of CQU, and other responsible cadres of related organizations in Chongqing are also present at the investigation.

Liu Yandong successively visits the Electron Microscope Center and the Analysis and Test Center of Chongqing University, and points out characteristics lie in independent research and development projects that are exclusive to one organization. The research of Electron Microscope Center should mainly focus on original innovation, and should correspond to the national innovation-driven development strategy. In addition, efforts should be made in reform and innovation of management and school-running system and mechanism, in an effort to attract various high-quality resources from the society, the industry and the enterprises, thus realizing diversified school running. After investigating the Analysis and Test Center and the semiconductor film growth apparatus independently developed by Chongqing University and manufactured by a domestic large-scale equipment manufacturer, Liu Yandong expresses her hope that more and more kinds of home equipment in China can be eventually commercialized and substitute imported equipment. In addition, Liu points out that the sharing degree of equipment should be improved, so as to make contributions to the development of society, people’s livelihood and local economy.

Liu Yandong stresses that the socialism with Chinese characteristics has now entered a new era, which offers the best opportunity for development of higher education. We should comprehensively learn and implement the socialism with Chinese characteristics of the new era as proposed by President Xi Jinping, and the spirit of the 19^th National Congress of CPC, and should comprehensively implement the spirit of National Conference on Ideological and Political Work for Colleges and Universities, so as to bring about a new situation for ideological and political work in colleges and universities. Chongqing  University has profound deposits, and it should implement the basic task of strengthening moral education and cultivating people, and developing talents for the new era who are able to take on the national rejuvenation. Furthermore, Chongqing University should strengthen the “Double-First-Rate” construction, and the CPC building among teachers, in an ultimate effort to improve the quality of higher education, and drive connotative development. It is also expected to serve the major strategic need of China and of Chongqing, and play a significant role in the national innovation-driven development strategy.
