CQU student I&E team wins gold award in National AI Innovation Competition for College Students

Recently, the student innovation & entrepreneurship team of Chongqing University named “TALLERTEK” competed with more than 30 teams from Tsinghua University, Beijing University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Macau University of Science and Technology and eventually made it to the gold award (2 winners) in the “National AI Innovation Competition for College Students” sponsored by China University Scientific and Technological Achievements Fair. The team was also given a money reward of 100,000 yuan. Furthermore, the “alpaca” student I&E team of Chongqing University won the copper award (10 winners).

The “TALLERTEK” team is mainly made up of students from the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Automotive Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Economics and Business Administration. Based on the machine vision and autonomous navigation, the team has developed intelligent building climbing robot that is capable of walking after people, climbing stairs, crossing barriers, providing autonomous navigation, and automatically avoiding barriers and other key functions. The robot is designed to perform the “last kilometer” part of logistics services.

The “alpaca” team of Chongqing University is mainly made up of students from the School of Automobile Engineering and the School of Mechanical Engineering. The team has built up a comfort level model of people based on the ergonomics, which uses the machine vision to recognize the gesture information of people, so as to match people’s needs through various ways, thus making life much easier and more comfortable.

The National AI Innovation Competition for College Students was held as a part of the Second China University Scientific and Technological Achievements Fair by the Organizing Committee of the Fair. The theme of the Competition is “innovation drives development and intelligence changes living”. The Competition involves online appraisal and onsite defense. There were 208 projects that had been registered for the preliminary competition and 36 outstanding projects eventually made it to the final.

 

To get prepared for the Competition, the Youth League Committee of Chongqing University carried out extensive mobilization activities and organized the team in a precise manner and held an internal competition in the University. Outstanding teams were chosen to participate in the national competition. Five rounds of specialized guide trainings were provided, including text writing, PPT production and video production and defense skills. In addition, subsidies and premises were also provided as a way to support the team.
