The National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science has announced the List of Approved Major Bidding Projects Supported by National Social Science Foundation of 2018 the other day. The Study on Theoretical and Empirical Foundation for Important Statement of President Xi Jinping on Poverty Alleviation Efforts and Effect of Targeted Alleviation led by Professor Yao Shujie from the School of Economics and Business Administration as the chief expert and the General History of Latin Poetry (Multi-volume) led by Professor Li Yongyi from the School of Foreign Languages as the chief expert were approved to be established.

It is reported that among the major bidding projects supported by National Social Science Foundation, 7 approved projects are from Chongqing, and in particular 2 are from Chongqing University. Chongqing University has been granted the major projects of this kind for 8 consecutive years since Chongqing University was granted its first major project supported by the National Social Science Foundation in 2011. It is also the second time that Chongqing University has been granted two major projects in the same year after the first time in 2017. By now, Chongqing University has been granted a total of 11 projects supported by the National Social Science Foundation. The project led by Professor Yao Shujie is the fourth major project granted to the School of Economics and Business Administration supported by the National Social Science Foundation. The project led by Professor Li Yongyi is the first major project granted to the School of Foreign Languages, and is the second major project in fundamental liberal studies granted to Chongqing University after the first one granted in 2016.

Major projects supported by the National Social Science Foundation are projects of the highest level, greatest authority, highest funding amount and fiercest competition in the national philosophy and social science research area of China. In recent years, the Social Sciences Office has been providing full-process tracking and careful services for the major projects, and concentrating efforts on improving the ability of organizing, planning and obtaining national major projects of Chongqing University. It has been giving substantial support to the project groups of major projects with respect to early cultivation, and topic selection, teambuilding, filling of bidding documents and expert consultation and demonstration in the process of project application, so as to ensure every step in project application is taken properly.

In 2018, Chongqing University submitted applications for 10 major bidding projects supported by the National Social Science Foundation. The approved major project led by Professor Li Yongyi has been proposed by Professor Li in the suggestion on topic selection submitted to the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science and successfully listed in the bid invitation guidance. In recent years, the ability of Chongqing University’s research team of humanities and social sciences to obtain national major projects has improved drastically, and the level and quality of academic project selection of the research team have been gradually drawing attention and gaining recognition on the national level. With constant innovation and development of humanities and social sciences and improvement of the core competitiveness, the practical ability of promoting “Double-First-Rate” construction is continuously being enhanced.
