The 60th Anniversary of Computer Science Program and Seminar on “Double-First-Rate” Construction of the School of Computer Science is held in Minzhu Lake Lecture Hall, Campus A, Chongqing University was held on December 15, 2018. Deans, professors and representatives of schools of computer sciences from more than 50 colleges and universities nationwide attended this event.
Xiong Zhongyang, secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Computer Science chaired the Seminar. At the opening ceremony, Liao Xiaofeng, dean of the School delivered a speech on behalf of the School, and extended his sincere welcome to honored guests present at the event. Liao briefly covered the 60-year development history of the School. He pointed out that Chongqing University was one of the first universities to establish the computer research base in China. With exploring efforts of generations, the former computer science program has gradually developed into the School of Computer Science with a strong faculty, diversified specialties and a complete cultivation system. The School will actively get involved in the “Double-First-Rate” construction by looking to the future and seeking for all-round and leap-type development, so as to ultimately become one that is among “domestically first-rate and internationally well-known ones”.
Guo Songtao, deputy dean of the School of Computer Science, delivered a report on development and construction of disciplines of the School. Guo stated that Chongqing University would “concentrate efforts and respond to the development requirements of the new era”, and attach more importance to talent introduction, outcome evaluation and ESI contribution rate indexes, and focus on “new engineering courses”. In addition, innovation of talent cultivation modes will be carried out to get into the top list.
After that, Dr. Zhou Ming, vice president of Microsoft Research Asia, Professor Li Bo from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a Distinguished Young Scholar, and a Changjiang Scholar, Professor Cao Zehan, the representative of retired and senior staff members, Professor Feng Dan, dean of the Scholl of Computer Science of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the enterprise representative, Vice President Chen Xi in charge of intelligent computing of Huawei, respectively delivered a speech, and extended their congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the School of Computer Science.
In order to explore the “Double-First-Rate” construction direction of the School, and find the best way of development of computer specialty education, the School also invited Professor Jiao Licheng specialized in artificial intelligence from Xidian University, Professor Ma Huadong from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Professor Xiao Nong from Sun Yat-Sen University, Professor Feng Dan from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Chen Guihai from Nanjing University and Professor Li Kenli from Hunan University. The 6 honored guests delivered special academic reports on the “Double-First-Rate” construction, which won warm response of the guests, teachers and students present.
On the occasion of this event, the transition ceremony of ACM Chongqing was held on the afternoon of December 15. Liu Yunhuai, vice chairman of ACM China Chapter delivered a speech at the ceremony, and presented all members with a letter of appointment. Professor Guo Songtao, chairman of ACM Chongqing, delivered a report on work planning.
The 60th Anniversary of Computer Science Program and Seminar on “Double-First-Rate” Construction of the School of Computer Science have been brought to a successful end. The past 60 years have witnessed the devoted efforts and hardworking of all those contributing to development of the School. At this critical moment for development of the School, we sincerely hope that the disciplinary construction and academic scientific researches of the School will continue to flourish, and will make further contributions to fulfillment of the strategic goal of “building the first-rate school and the first-rate disciplines” of high quality and characteristics in China or even in the world and the two-century goals.
