The environment science/ecology broke into top 1% disciplines in ESI database. ESI database has released its latest data on December 13, 2019 of Beijing Time. The environment science/ecology of China is listed among the top 1% disciplines in the world for the first time in history. Now, Chongqing University has 8 top 1% ESI disciplines, including engineering science, material science, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, clinical medicine, plant and animal science and environment science/ecology. Please see Table I for the specifics.

The ranking of organizations released by ESI database is based on the citation frequency of papers. According to the statistics, a total of 6,009 organizations have broken into top 1%. The environmental science/ecology has been listed in top 1% ESI disciplines in the world for the first time. By now, Chongqing University already has 8 top 1% ESI disciplines, ranking the first place among colleges and universities in Chongqing in terms of the number of included disciplines.

 The Academic Evaluation and Analysis Center of Chongqing University Library releases the Brief Report on ESI Discipline Influence of Chongqing University in the OA system of Chongqing University every two months. The Brief Report includes statistics and analysis of the specific performance of the potential disciplines and preponderant disciplines and the overall condition of Chongqing  University.

Whether a discipline can be rated as the world-first-rate discipline depends heavily on whether this discipline can be included as top 1% disciplines in ESI database. It is also a measure of the core competitiveness in scientific research of a university. For this reason, Chongqing University has been attaching great importance to construction of first-rate disciplines and strengthening management and organization planning. It lays equal stress on the number and quality of academic papers. The inclusion of environmental science/ecology in top 1% ESI disciplines indicates that Chongqing University has made further progress in disciplinary construction. In the future, Chongqing University will concentrate more efforts on promoting construction of first-rate disciplines and first-rate university.
