CQU officials meet with Environment and Agriculture Secretary of Sachsen

On March 25, 2019, Ming Ju, vice president of Chongqing University met with Mr. Thomas Schmidt, Environment and Agriculture Secretary of Sachsen, and his companions.

Ming Ju extended his sincere welcome to the delegation on behalf of Chongqing University, and gave a brief introduction to the development history, characteristics, teaching and scientific research construction and international exchange and communication of Chongqing University. Ming said that Chongqing University had maintained long-term partnership with Sachsen, Germany . Sachsen has world leading technologies and experiences in terms of environment protection, agriculture, technology and automobile manufacturing, and Chongqing University could learn from Sachsen. He expressed his hope that the two parties may expand their cooperation areas, deepen cooperation level and make joint efforts to carry out further exchange and scientific research projects on the basis of the existing ones.

 

Mr. Thomas Schmidt showed his gratitude towards Chongqing University for the warm reception, and said he was delighted to see the achievements made in cooperation between Chongqing University and Sachsen in the past few years, in particular the extraordinary achievements made in areas like microelectronic technology. During this visit, Mr. Thomas witnessed the signing of the cooperation agreement for a scientific research project titled “portable water quality onsite monitoring sensing system” between Chongqing University and Technische Universität Dresden. This marked a substantial progress in cooperation between the two. He pointed out that Sachsen had in deed gained rich experience in areas such as environment protection. However, it is facing a number of challenges and difficulties in the process of development. Mr. Thomas expressed his hope that his visit and the exchange activities would serve as a bridge between Sachsen and colleges, universities, enterprises and scientific research institutions of China , and serve to promote cooperation and exchange between the two parties in such areas. The two should make joint efforts to cope with challenges and difficulties encountered in the process of scientific and technological advancement and development.

 

After the meeting, Mr. Thomas attended the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement for a scientific research project between Chongqing University and Technische Universität Dresden. At the end of the signing ceremony, the two parties exchanged gifts and had group photos taken.

After that, the delegation visited the Key Discipline Lab of New-type Micro-nano Devices and System Technology of Chongqing University.

Mr. Thomas was accompanied by Mr. Klaus Kühling, assistant to Environment and Agriculture Secretary of Sachsen, Ms. Bianca Schulz, deputy press secretary of the Department of Environment and Agriculture of Sachsen, Mr. Ronny Wähner, a provincial congress member of Sachsen, Mr. Lutz Richter, a provincial congress member of Sachsen, Mr. Thomas Horn, general manager of the Economic Promotion Bureau of Sachsen, Mr. Mathias Hoffman, general manager of Ostec, Mr. Dieter Künstling, general manager of IAK Agrar, Dr. Julia Osten, strategy and research manager of Fraunhofer institute for Transportation and Infrastructure, Professor Knut Schmidtke, vice chancellor of Technische Universität Dresden in charge of development and research and Professor Michael Mertig, director of Coulter Schwabe Measurement Sensing Technology Society.

 

Guo Yongcai, dean of the School of Photoelectric Engineering of Chongqing University, Xie Weidong, vice president of the Institute of Scientific Research and Development and Gao Xiang, deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and other related workers also attended the meeting. The deputy director of the Water Environment Research Office of Chongqing Environmental Science Research Institute was present as well.
