The Workshop for TISC and National Intellectual Property Information Centers in Colleges and Universities was held on September 25, 2020 in Jinan, Shandong Province. This event was sponsored by the State Intellectual Property Office of China and attended by more than 250 organizations nationwide.

At the event, Gao Runsheng, representative of China Office of the World Intellectual Property Organization and first-class inspector of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education, and He Zhimin, deputy director of the State Intellectual Property Office, addressed the attendants. Officials of the State Intellectual Property Office and WIPO officially inaugurated the third batch of 34 undertaking organizations of TISC in China. Yang Xinya, curator of the Library of Chongqing University and director of TISC received the plate on behalf of CQU.

WIPO, which is short for Technology and Innovation Support Center, is a specialized organization established by the United Nations not long ago, in an effort to provide premium technical information and related services reliant on local resources for innovators in developing countries, and help them develop new potentials and create, protect and manage the intellectual property right. As an important platform for the innovators to acquire technical information, TISC helps improve the innovators’ and inventors’ ability to acquire information on technology and intellectual property.

As of today, a total of 51 TISC undertaking organizations have been approved to be established in China. Chongqing University is among the 10 approved colleges and universities, and is the second approved organization after Chongqing Intellectual Property Information Center. It is also one of the four colleges and universities that have both the National Intellectual Property Information Center in Colleges and Universities and TISC.

Foundation of TISC in Chongqing University is of great significance for the technology and innovation of CQU and Chongqing. TISC is expected to give full play to its advantages in resources and talents and provide all-round information services for the creation, application, protection and management of the intellectual property right, support the collaborative innovation and construction of advantageous disciplines of CQU, improve the patent quality of colleges and universities, expedite transformation and applications in colleges and universities and at the same time provide high-standard information services for local economic development and innovation development. Its ultimate goal is to allow the colleges and universities to play a critical role in serving the economic-social development.
