Exhibition of Selected Works and Invited Works of 2021 Chinese Zodiac Design Competition for Colleges and Universities held at Huxi Campus, Chongqing University

On September 17, the Exhibition of Selected Works and Invited Works of 2021 Chinese Zodiac Design Competition for Colleges and Universities was held in the Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Library, Huxi Campus, the Department of Design, the School of Arts. The Exhibition was co-sponsored by the Publicity Department, Huxi Management Committee, Library, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the School of Arts and Meiyu Education Center and organized by the Department of Design of the School of Arts.

The Exhibition received a total of 300 pieces of invited works from well-known designers and cartoonists from home and abroad and 825 pieces of selected works submitted by college students. As one of the exhibition sites of the National Itinerant Exhibition of Works of Chinese Zodiac Design Competition for Colleges and Universities, Chongqing University is always promoting Chinese culture and encouraging original design. It encourages college students to combine creative ideas with practice use in daily life, and plays an important role in inheriting the Chinese zodiac culture and arousing the design capacity of the younger generation. Since 2017, Chongqing University has held 3 sessions of Exhibition of Selected Works of Chinese Zodiac Design Competition for Colleges and Universities.

Associate Professor Kuang Chengquan of the School of Arts, a planner of the exhibition, said that the Department of Visual Communication had always attached importance to exhibition of created Chinese zodiac designs because it was helpful for improving the learning environment of design teaching and broadening student’s design horizon. In addition, such event could also encourage students to make progress and innovation, and create an inspiring atmosphere of aesthetic education and national culture.

The teachers and students who visited the Exhibition spoke highly of the Exhibition. Zhang Chengkang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Arts, pointed out that the Exhibition reflected the professional spirit of the teachers of the School of Arts and their devotion to educating people, which was in line with the cultural character of the zodiac animal "ox", who is hardworking and making contributions unnoticed. Luo Sangui, dean of the School of Arts, pointed out that traditional culture was our root and the foundation of our nation. He expressed his hope that the students would take this opportunity to deeply study traditional culture, carry forward national culture and constantly promote national culture to the world. Liu Jingchuan participated in the whole process of planning and exhibition, and deeply felt the great charm and potential of national culture. He expressed his expectation that his junior fellow students could take this opportunity to continuously integrate national culture into various kinds of design works.

This Exhibition allowed the students to better understand the cultural origin and symbolic significance of the twelve Chinese zodiacs, experience the broad essence of Chinese culture and the new connotation of the Chinese zodiac signs in modern design. It is a grand cultural feast that improves aesthetic and humanistic quality and also serves as an important lesson in entrance education. It is reported that the Exhibition will last until October 7. All teachers and students can visit and communicate in the Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Library, Huxi Campus.
