This is the "first lecture" delivered at Hongshen Academy.
"Shenhong Academy" got its name from a line in the Declaration of Establishment of the Preparatory Committee of National Chongqing University of 1929 that goes 'a well-equipped and influential university shall be set up". It shows the expectation for students to "be of high moral standards, well learned, firm in belief and patriotic". The team of the Academy is made up of the "President of the Academy, supervisors of the Academy and peer supervisors", and implements the "Life Navigation Plan", "Literal Education Plan" and "Literacy Improvement Plan". It will be eventually built into a modern large-scale academy that integrates ideological and political education, literal education and professional education.
At the Ceremony, Wang Shuxin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Chongqing University, presented Zhou Xuhong with the President Appointment Certificate. After that, the two officially inaugurated the Academy. "Efforts to set up Hongshen Academy are in response to the new situation, new tasks and new requirements facing the development of higher education in the new era and are an important step toward deepening the undergraduate talent training reform." According to Wang Shuxin, Hongshen Academy will give full play to the leading role of masters, comply with the school-running law of higher education and law of undergraduate talent training, carry forward the connotation construction, and explore an academy mode with characteristics of Chongqing University, so as to realize its goal of nurturing a number of top patriotic talents in first-rate basic disciplines with high humanistic quality and global vision.
On the afternoon of June 29, Zhou Xuhong delivered the "first lecture" of Hongshen Academy under the title "A window of the thousand-year-old courtyard open for me". In the emotion-laden lecture, he recalled his experience as one of the first college students after the resumption of university entrance examination more than 40 years ago, and shared with students how he is closely related to Yuelu Academy. "During my study there, I was deeply influenced by the culture of Yuelu Academy. I gradually came to understand how one should behave as a decent people, handle affairs properly and carry out research, and gained insights into the philosophy of behavior, study and governance". Zhou Xuhong encouraged students to "study hard and persevere", "value their time and take one step at a time", and "always work harder 10 times than others do", so as to achieve their life goals.
