More than 40 scientific and technological innovation achievements of CQU exhibited at Smart China Expo

The 2022 Smart China Expo opened at Chongqing Yuelai International Convention Center on the morning of August 22, 2022. The Smart China Expo has the theme of "Smart Technology: Empowering Economy, Enriching Life" and focuses on the annual theme of "smart city". It is held by both virtual and physical means.

At the 2022 Smart China Expo, Wang Shuxin, President of Chongqing University and an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a keynote speech titled "Smart + 5G: development of smart remote surgery". In his speech, Wang explained his thoughts on the application scenario of remote surgery, telemedicine in the epidemic era, "smart hand" minimally invasive surgical robot system + 5G remote clinical research and application, the future development of "smart, 5G + remote surgery" with easily understood language, and proposed that smart remote surgery is the future development direction of the medical industry. Wang also offered effective ways and solutions to solve the uneven distribution of medical resources in China and rapidly improve the overall level of medical technology.

Wink to turn on the light. Now you have a "third hand".

Wink to turn on the light; wink again to turn it off. Just wink and it will know what you want. Yes. It is just so amazing. The "wink detection and control device based on nano power generation" developed by the School of Physics of Chongqing University gives us a "third hand". You can use this new-type human-computer interaction to control the electronic devices nearby when your hands are busily engaged. This technology can also benefit patients of disease such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis whose capacity for action is compromised.

"Patients with muscular atrophy and hand disability experience great difficulty entering text on a computer, a mobile phone or other electronic devices." However, such electronic devices serve as an important channel for them to communicate and express their ideas." Professor Guo Hengyu from the School of Physics of Chongqing University said that a physicist named Stephen Hawking had muscular dystrophy and the only way for him to express his ideas was winking or making facial micro-motion to enter texts.

According to Guo Hengyu, traditional wink-based typing systems have the bioelectrical signal sensor as the signal source, and are limited by their disadvantages including weak signal (millivolt level, which is usually submerged by noise signals), poor electrode stability and complicated back-end signal extraction. The team of Guo Hengyu designed a thin-film muscle micro-motion sensor device based on friction nano power generation technology, which can be attached to the part to be detected. Its signal strength is nearly 1,000 times higher than that of traditional bioelectrical signals, and it has satisfactory stability, which makes the process of back-end signal processing much simpler, and the whole wink human-computer interaction system much more practical and cheaper.

A marvelous preservation system that enables Wushan crispy plums to be sold to foreign countries.

At the Expo, the "air discharge free-radical fruit and vegetable preservation system" was exhibited. Last month, it was used for preservation of Wushan crispy plums that were sold to foreign countries.

Wushan County is known as the "Home to Chinese Crispy Plums". Wushan crispy plums are not only "famous fruit of China", and are also dubbed as the "gold fruit" that helps local resident get rid of poverty. However, the length for preservation of crispy plums after picking is only 4-5 days, which has become a tough challenge facing the industrial chain. How can we preserve the crispy plums for a longer time? Though there are various preservation methods including cold storage fresh-keeping and soaking preservative, due to immaturity of the technology, there may be contaminant residual or loss of water in the treatment process, compromising the taste of the plums. This is also posing a direct impact on the brand building and export of Wushan crispy plums.

In early July 2022, Associate Professor Liu Kun of Chongqing University and his team arrived in Wushan County. After knowing the dilemma facing the crispy plums, they provided technological service, the air discharge free-radical fruit and vegetable preservation system they had developed independently, for free. After the equipment was brought into use, the length for preservation of crispy plums increased from 4-5 days to 2 weeks.

According to Liu Kun, the air discharge free-radical fruit and vegetable preservation system can effectively kill pathogenic bacteria on the surface of fruits and vegetables to prevent decay, and defer the physiological aging of fruits and vegetables. It is the first non-chemical fresh-keeping air discharge free radical system with the above features in the world.

"The original intention of the development is to reduce loss suffered by fruit growers with technology and contribute to rural revitalization." Said Liu Kun.

It is reported that, after the "air discharge free-radical fruit and vegetable preservation system" appeared and went on the market, it provided a completely different alternative of fruit preservation. In practical application, workers only need to feed the baskets filled with fruit and vegetable into the equipment without adding anything, and then the equipment will initiate the sterilization process for the preset duration. It is convenient and effective, and saves labor cost.

A smart "knitting shirt" that keeps your cardiovascular system monitored all the time

Breathing, pulses and physical actions may carry rich physiological information. By capturing and analyzing such physiological information, real-time monitoring of the physical condition of people can be provided, and early warming of abnormality can be given.

The seemly ordinary "knitting shirt" exhibited at the CQU Showroom of Smart China Expo is actually so smart that it keeps your physical condition monitored all the time if you put it on.

"At present, the commonly used physiological parameter medical monitoring device is large in size, difficult to use and unconformable to wear, and is therefore unable to monitor the physiological parameters of people in real time". Professor Yang Jin from Chongqing University and his team developed two washable whole fabric strain sensors based on triboelectric and electrostatic induction principle, which could be integrated into daily clothing in a seamless manner using mature knitting technique and provide 24h monitoring of a number of physiological parameters.

"We used the prepared conductive yarn and nylon yarn as the sensing fabric material, and used the full cardigan knitting method to prepare the full-fabric sensor." Yang Jin explained that the design team introduced a flexible interlocking structure in the structural design of the all-fabric pulse sensor, so that it can sensitively sense the small deformation caused by the pulse and capture the pulse signals accurately." Moreover, the skin-friendly and comfortable pure-cotton and natural silk is used as the knitting material to ensure that the sensor is comfortable to wear, soft and air-permeable. Eventually, with mature knitting technology and processing technique, the full fabric sensor and daily clothing are integrated in a seamless manner. Different patterns and shapes can be knitted to meet the individualized needs of people for clothing.

According to Yang Jin, the team is committed to making daily clothing smart while ensuring that they are still comfortable, washable and scalable. Such clothing is able to capture more physiological information of human body, add intelligent applications, interface with professional medical diagnosis platforms in an all-round manner, so as to provide 24h monitoring and management of the physical condition of people.
